SOUTHERN CHARM & HOSPITALITY-OUR TRIP TO NORTH CAROLINA
Just back from a great week in North Carolina,
karen & i were down there to attend the North Carolina Museum of Art -Porsche by Design -seducing speed exhibition, attend a track day at VIR & spend some time with friends.
Downtown Raleigh
it was great to have my favorite car with me ,
my buddy chad & i drove the 75 miles up to VIR from raleigh thru some great roads
VIR -Virgina International Raceway....
i had never driven to VIR so before i got there i did a little you tube on line homework & watched a few videos, downloaded the track map & hoped for the best
we were attending the Inaugural INGRAM DRIVING EXPERIENCE track day held on the south course at VIR.
The track is challenging twisty 1.6 mile undulating course ,
with some fun turns.
whilst there i was reunited with my old 72STR 02 ...
Cam Ingram had brought a few cars along from their collection that included a 356 Carrera GT ,904 ,68 L sport purpose trans am,& 2 Synergy cup cars for a few of their customers to sample on the track....
Cam showed me the line around the track on my first session ,which is always a little different from how the videos appear !
after a few sessions i was feeling comfortable & started to get on with the program ,
i couple of soldiers from near by Fort Bragg Were in attendance,& i gave one a ride around for a few hot laps -sure was fun chasing down a few cars on the twisty 1.6 mile course..
during the day my buddy Frazer Spowart was on hand to shoot a little video....
it was a fun to be on the track with my old 72STR 02.....
Cam was driving the 72 i was driving my 71 & frazer was filming from the 2008 GT3 RS !
later on in the day i got to drive a 68L trans Am Car on the track in the company of the 904 driven by chad & 356 carrera
The 68L is one of the best driving cars i have driven in a long time ,frazer hoped in to record some footage for an upcoming video....
this car does every thing great ......
it was a car i did not want to get out of & i actually kept going for a couple of laps after the others had fulled off track :)
VIR main man Kerrigan Smith was on hand to make sure the day ran smoothly...
unfortunaly the famous Oak Tree is no longer there, but i did get a medallion cut from the oak tree that served as my good luck charm for the day.....
for anyone that was yet to drive VIR i highly recommend it...
many thanks to cam, alan, brandon & kerrigan for a GREAT day at VIR......
The track went cold at 5.30 pm & frazer & i shot some video footage leaving the tarck & driving some great roads south into north carolina for an upcoming video....
gotta stop for gas sometime
on wednesday we shot some more video footage over at the Ingram collection & then karen and i drove over to the North carolina state university to do a little talk & show our Urban outlaw Video to students in the design department..
somehow on the way there we got a little lost & fortunately i good Porsche semaritain driving a range rover with a porsche sticker on the back pulled over offered help & escorted right to the design hall on the vast state university campus !!!
gotta love the Porsche guys......
speaking of which our buddy Jeff Zwart was also giving a talk to the students on campus......
it was great to be able share my story & hopefully provide a little inspiration to the students,
after my talk they all came out to check out car #277 in the parking lot !
that night was the first of many trips to the NCMA for a black tie gala dinner .....
good job i remembered my suit....
my buddy chalmers from PCNA -we both clean up well !!
porsche had a stand outside the Muesum -just to let people know they were in the right place !!
guests got dressed up
Jeff zwart- i saw more of this guy in the 5 days we were both in NC than i have in the past 5 months in CA :)
Tony Callis made the trip from LA..
it was great to see some old friends & make a lot of new ones..
this PORSCHE thing sure does bring people together....
the next day Frazer & i were out shooting some footage along with local RS guy Brandon Terretti - was on hand to show us some great driving roads for an upcoming video....
did i forget to mention it was raining & drizzling almost the whole time we were there...
i even had to bolt on a set of wipers i was fortunate to have in the trunk of the car!!
the Durham ,Raleigh area has some great driving roads & the overcast drizzly skies made for some great photo ops..
it was great to be able to drive my favorite car on some exciting new roads.
it is amazingly green around here.
a little camera phone footage -good for the sound..
provided by Brandon
We filmed a small interview at the picturesque Falls lake
local tour guide Brando Terretti & I
So we decided to end our shoot video at The NCMA PORSCHE by DESIGN exhibit....
The exhibit was set to open the next day but some people were around..
frazer & i

NCMA seemed like the logical place to end the video
